For one month, from mid-December 2012 to mid-January 2013, SPARCK artists Mega Mingiedi (Kinshasa) and Androa Mindre Kolo (Kinshasa and Strasbourg) lived and worked in Dakar, as part of an international, multi-participant residency titled Urban Scenographies. Together with 25 creators from Africa, Europe and the Americas, they explored issues of urban public and common space, body politics and theatricality in one part of the city: the neighbourhood of Ouakam. In this context, they jointly developed a performance project titled Malewa, in which they turned themselves into living, breathing incarnations of temporary, movable restaurant/meeting places set up on street corners in Kinshasa.
SPARCK is excited to be working with Mingiedi and Mindre, two of DRC’s most original and thought-provoking artists, and with Urban Scenographies, an ongoing, multi-sited project with which we have been in dialogue for several years around common interests in art(istic) in(ter)vention as a means of reflecting and impacting on urban space.
